🚦Lansdale grapples with traffic issues after tragedy

Dan Sokil | The Reporter
A recent fatal pedestrian accident involving a resident has brought Lansdale’s traffic woes back to the forefront.
Diane Thorpe Kopena, 71, died of severe head injuries a week after she was hit by a pick-up truck at the intersection of Columbia and South Richardson Avenues while on foot. The incident was the latest in a series of similar ones amid years of debate and discussion about pedestrian and traffic safety, with many alleging drivers in town constantly speed and ignore traffic signs, leading to frequent issues at intersections. Complaints about drivers spilling onto side streets to avoid congestion on main throughways have also been made.
The town presented early findings from a traffic study last fall, including new signs, speed bumps and changes to curbs and sidewalks. Another traffic study public meeting was held earlier this week; traffic woes are also expected to be discussed at the May 21 borough council meeting.

🐶 Rescue Dog of the Week

James Short | North Penn Now
Meet Thelma, a nine-year-old Jack Russell Terrier currently being fostered through Home At Last Dog Rescue.
Thelma was rescued from a puppy mill in Lancaster. She is a highly motivated and loving girl looking for her forever home. She loves to curl up on your lap, eat treats and play with her toys, especially a tennis ball. Thelma is crate- and house-trained and does well with other older and submissive dogs. She would do great in just about any household however, she would do best with kids over 6.
If you are interested in adopting Thelma or would like more information, you can reach out to Home At Last Dog Rescue at [email protected] or visit the group's website.
